Pikes Peak, which inspired Katherine Lee Bates to pen “America the Beautiful,” provides visitors with a 360-degree panoramic view. There are several ways to travel to the summit, which is located at an altitude of more than 14,000 feet. In addition to the Pikes Peak Highway and Pikes Peak Cog Railway, the more adventurous spirits can compete in the Pikes Peak Ultimate Challenge – a marathon where runners travel 23 miles to the mountain's summit and back down again. More activities are available in this area including hiking and fishing at Crystal Reservoir and panning for gems at Glen Cove.

The Garden of the Gods is an extraordinary red rock formation and park located north of Manitou Springs. The Visitor & Nature Center here offers educational exhibits, maps & nature tours, three gift shops and a balcony restaurant overlooking the park. Historic Manitou Springs is a step into the past with ancient Anasazi cliff dwellings and nine distinct styles of architecture at Miramont Castle and Museum. 

Further west of Colorado Springs and Green Mountain Falls lies the communities of Cripple Creek and Mountain. In these communities, you can view remnants of redwood trees at Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, take a tour of Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine, whitewater raft on one of the many rivers, go horseback riding at the local stables, or try your hand at roulette at one of several area casinos.
