Manitou Springs Community Information

Manitou Springs Real Estate

Manitou Springs is a close-knit town with a thriving art community. Considered a healing spot by the Indian tribes that originally settled here, Manitou Springs is now home to more than 5,000 residents. Its scenery and history continue to inspire residents and guests with its natural mineral springs, unique rock formations and scenic mountains.

At an altitude of more than 6,000 feet, Manitou Springs offers a living history within a modern society. Historic buildings line the town’s main street occupied by a variety of shopping and dining establishments. Art is important to this small town, and it is not uncommon to see local and visiting artists demonstrating their talents throughout the area. Local art organizations and museums often sponsor summer concerts, exhibits and workshops that are often available to the general public.

Although many residents commute to nearby towns, many people run their own small businesses including cafes, art galleries, and specialty shops. Residents take pride in their local community and work together to make improvements that benefit everyone. This includes volunteering their time and money to develop a community park.

Not only is it a popular destination for art enthusiasts, Manitou Springs attracts tourists year round with a wide range of recreational opportunities. Hiking, biking, and horseback riding are favorite activities as well as golfing, hunting, mountain climbing, and soaring. Residents have gained national attention more than once for their annual events including The Great Fruitcake Toss, Emma Crawford Festival & Memorial Coffin Race, and the EAS Pikes Peak Marathon®.

Manitou Springs is home of the annual EAS Pikes Peak Marathon®. Runners begin in front of city hall and ascend more than 7,000 vertical feet for 13.32 miles to the summit of Pikes Peak – the halfway point of the race. Manitou also hosts additional competitions in the Triple Crown of Running Series including EAS Pikes Peak Ascent®, the Garden of the Gods 10 Mile Run®, and the Summer Roundup Trail Run 12K.

A variety of housing options are available in Manitou Springs from private homes on several acres to new homes in planned communities. The median home price in 2005 was $175,300, according to local census data. Affordable housing prices, numerous recreational opportunities and cultural events are only a few of the reasons many people have made Manitou Springs home.
