Northeast Colorado Springs has many definitions. The past to the present has seen Colorado Springs grow in a generally northeast direction thru out the years. Today the northeast area has borders surrounded by the Powers corridor on the east and Briargate on the north. Academy Boulevard is generally considered the western boundary with North Carefree being the southern line. There are many varieties of homes in this area ranging from small condos in the $50,000 range to total luxury living in University Park. Mid-priced options ranging from $150,000-$400,000 are in areas like Vista Grande, Garden Ranch, Norwood, Old Farm, Wagon Trails, Newport Heights and Sunrise Mesa.

The northeast side of town is rich in diversity. The Garden Ranch YMCA and Cottonwood Park. Cottonwood Park with its pool and sports fields provides tons of recreation. Shopping is abundant thru out the area and restaurants like Chili’s Old Chicago and Pueblo Viejo plus the abundance of restaurants along Academy Blvd.

The schools are anchored by Doherty High School. This award winning high school is also supported by Coronado High School. Russell, Sabin and Jenkins Middle Schools plus the abundance of elementary schools make this an extremely popular area.

Home sizes and prices vary greatly thru out the area. Most were built in the 1970’s and 1980’s with newer areas built in the 1990’s. Newness and size are the main directives of pricing in the area. Whatever your taste, there is a home to fit your needs.

One of the biggest attractions is the U.S. Air Force Academy. Thousands of visitors make a trip to this military training facility, which offers a visitor’s center with a gift shop and the Cadet Chapel, which has 17 spires made of aluminum, glass, and steel. North of the Academy is Castle Rock, which is the home of the Colorado Renaissance Festival that runs for approximately six weeks each summer. For a shopping experience you won’t forget, The Outlets at Castle Rock has deals on products and services from more than 110 brand name stores.

Many parks and gardens located in Colorado Springs provide visitors with the opportunity to view panoramic mountain views and get a little closer to nature. Whether you are looking for an easy stroll or intense ride, Ute Valley Park has miles of hiking and mountain biking trails for everyone. Nestled in a valley just north of the Garden of the Gods is Glen Eyrie Castle. Originally the grand home of Colorado Springs’ founder William Jackson Palmer, the estate is now a bed & breakfast with more than 100 rooms and cottages available for overnight stays. In addition to accommodations, Glen Eyrie hosts Christian conferences, youth programs and special events.

Many of the activities available in Colorado Springs celebrate its history. Flying W Ranch is an old western town that provides a western stage show after every barbeque chicken and beef supper. Cowboys are the main focus of the ProRodeo Hall of Fame and Museum of American Cowboy. This heritage center, which is the only one dedicated entirely to ProRodeo, has various displays of cowboy memorabilia and multimedia presentations.

Housing options vary in northwest Colorado Springs to include historic homes in established neighborhoods and new homes in exclusive communities. Many individual properties include several acres – perfect for enjoying the added privacy or raising horses. Condominiums are also available in some areas northwest of the city.
